An Accessioner plays a crucial role in the healthcare and laboratory sectors. They are responsible for the accurate and efficient handling, labeling, and processing of biological specimens, such as blood, urine, and tissue samples. This position serves as a vital entry point in the laboratory workflow, ensuring the integrity of diagnostic processes by properly cataloging and routing samples for testing.

Responsibilities:

• Accurate processing of patient specimens and data entry into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Must follow all written Standard Operating Procedures in departments (SOPs).
• Verify Insurance for patients of samples coming in.
• Responsible for all documentation required for the tasks performed.
• Ensures proper and complete patient identification on requisitions and specimen labels.
• Prepares specimens for internal departments and send outs as necessary.
• Data entry of patient information as necessary.
• Unpack and route specimens to their respective staging areas.
• Resolve and document any problem specimens.
• Comply with applicable environmental health and safety policies and procedures.
• Weekly reports outlining the work that has been completed, issues, resolutions.
• Other tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous laboratory or related experience preferred.
• Useful skills include familiarity with medical terminology, strong data entry and organizational abilities, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions.
• Adherence to safety regulations at all times.
